At Proyecto Tití, forests are at the heart of everything we do. Protecting cotton-top tamarins means protecting the forests they call home—and ensuring those forests can grow, recover, and thrive for generations to come.
That’s why we are excited to share some wonderful news: Proyecto Tití has a new bioclimatic tree nursery, made possible through a partnership between CARDIQUE, the regional environmental authority, and Afinia. This nursery was constructed in the Los Titíes de San Juan Forest Reserve as part of an environmental compensation agreement supporting habitat restoration.

What makes this nursery especially exciting is its innovative and sustainable design. Classified as a bioclimatic nursery, it operates entirely using renewable energy. Solar panels generate the electricity needed for daily operations, including an automated irrigation system powered by solar energy that pumps and distributes water efficiently. Integrated solar lighting allows work to continue safely and sustainably, even in low-light conditions. Together, these features reduce environmental impact while maximizing productivity.

With this new nursery, Proyecto Tití can now produce an additional 25,000 native trees each year. These seedlings will play a critical role in our forest conservation program, directly supporting our three core pillars: protecting existing forests, connecting forest fragments, and restoring habitat to create more forests. Each tree grown helps strengthen wildlife corridors, restore degraded lands, and expand vital habitat for cotton-top tamarins and many other species that depend on Colombia’s tropical dry forest.

Beyond its environmental impact, the nursery represents opportunity. It enhances our ability to collaborate with local communities, provides hands-on conservation and learning experiences, and ensures a reliable supply of native tree species adapted to local conditions. Many of these trees will also benefit surrounding communities by offering shade, food resources, and long-term environmental resilience.
We are deeply grateful to CARDIQUE and Afinia for their support and commitment to conservation. Investments like this do more than build infrastructure—they build resilience, collaboration, and hope.
As these young trees take root and grow, so does our impact. Together, we are planting more than trees—we are planting a future where forests flourish and cotton-top tamarins continue to live wild, where they belong.
