At Proyecto Tití, we believe conservation begins with connection—and one of the most powerful ways to connect is through storytelling. That belief is at the heart of TITÍCUENTO, the second module of TITÍ SHOW, where culture, imagination, and conservation come together to inspire action for the critically endangered cotton-top tamarin.
TITÍCUENTO features a story told by a narrator dressed in traditional attire, honoring Colombia’s rich oral storytelling traditions. Colombian cuentos are deeply rooted in folklore, mythology, and social reality, with legendary characters such as La Patasola, El Hombre Caimán, and Mamá Bachué shaping generations of listeners. Today, these traditions continue to be celebrated and promoted through national cultural initiatives and educational platforms that preserve and share Colombia’s storytelling heritage.
Building on this tradition, TITÍCUENTO uses narrative as a bridge between culture and conservation. The story follows Lucho, a young boy determined to change the future of his community by protecting the forest and its wildlife. Through Lucho’s journey, children explore themes of responsibility, environmental stewardship, and the power of individual action.
In this module, cotton-top tamarins are not distant animals living somewhere in the forest. They are part of a living story—one that invites children and adults alike to reflect on their relationship with nature and their role in protecting it. Through the story, children are encouraged to make a personal pledge to never keep a cotton-top tamarin as a pet, reinforcing the message that these animals belong in the wild, with their families and forests intact.
The central goal of TITÍCUENTO is to inspire people to become SalvaTitíes—individuals who take meaningful actions to protect cotton-top tamarins and their habitat. Whether it’s caring for the forest, respecting wildlife, or sharing conservation messages with others, the stories encourage audiences to see themselves as changemakers.
While TITÍCUENTO was originally designed for elementary school students, we have also pilot-tested the program during community events with children and families. The response has been overwhelmingly positive. Storytelling has proven to be a powerful and engaging experience for people of all ages, sparking conversations, empathy, and a shared sense of responsibility. Through TITÍCUENTO, conservation becomes personal, cultural, and hopeful. Because when stories reflect who we are and where we come from, they have the power not only to educate—but to inspire action.
And that is how stories help create SalvaTitíes and a brighter future for cotton-top tamarins.
