Welcome

» Español / Spanish Version

Cotton-top tamarins are an endangered species of primate found only in the tropical forests of Colombia. Weighing about 1 pound, this tiny monkey needs our help in order to survive. Proyecto Tití is a conservation program that works to study cotton-top tamarins in their tropical forest habitat as well as educating local communities about the need to protect the biodiversity of Colombia. But, to make conservation economically feasible for many local communities, we have developed some innovative strategies to empower local people to get involved and benefit from conservation activities. You too, can help to support the conservation of cotton-top tamarins by learning more about this amazing animal and contributing to our program.

ASOARTESANAS Receive Equator Prize
Ana Isabel Olivares, president of Proyecto Titi’s eco-mochila artisan association (ASOARTESANAS), recently attended the United Nations Development Program Equator Prize Community Aldeia at the Rio+20 conference.  We are very excited to share that ASOARTESANAS were one of the 25 selected from more than 800 applicants to receive the Equator Prize, and even more exciting was that they received one of the 10 special recognition awards

The Equator Prize recognizes sustainable development solutions for people, nature, and resilient communities.  It seemed like a natural fit given ASOARTESANAS’ work with developing eco-mochilas to reduce the amount of plastic waste in the environment and our plush cotton-top tamarins to help reduce the number of monkeys that are caught for the illegal pet trade.  The Community Aldeia was an opportunity to bring together the 25 winners from a variety of countries to share experiences and learn from previous winners how to leverage this prize to enhance their programs within UNDP and beyond.

Congratulations to ASOARTESANAS!
